Mumblers - __denby - 05-01-2026 Mumblers
Summary:"Unceasing, terrible, and monstrous things. I pray they are the bogeymen of childrens' tales." - A Sangreal Citizen. ![]() Characterized by the low, ever-present mumbling these entities produce, Mumblers possess an unnaturally pale, skeletal visage with sunken, sulking features. Their skin clings tightly to bone, while little to no fat fills out their appearance. These sulking creatures are thought to be the spirits of children who have become separated from their caretakers, and die alone, lost to the world. The overwhelming sense of dread present at the time of their death supposedly creates small ripples in the ley and causes these creatures to manifest as the physical embodiment of their depressive spirits. Mumblers are not of this world, and are hostile towards any naturally occuring entity in sight. Despite their hostility, Mumblers are not proactive. They tend to linger towards their prey at a depressive pace to corner their victims, rather than overwhelm them. Basic Description: A bipedal mammaloid monster, they are tall and thin creatures sometimes reaching a maximum height of eight feet. With nearly translucent skin that clings to the bone, and little fat to round out the figure, it is fair to equate the appearance of these creatures to pale wood or bone. The moment a Mumbler is brought into existence, it is already fully grown. Due to this set of circumstances, Mumblers do not mate. They aren’t capable of producing any offspring through natural means. They can vary in size and appearance depending on the manner by which they perished, but no further development occurs. A Mumbler preys upon its victims with their hands, which will begin draining the energy of the individual’s soul whose flesh it touches. The more a Mumbler feeds in this fashion, the longer the Mumbler can tether itself to this plane of existence. Perhaps, this is their driving goal- to retain some sad simulacrum of life in the absence of their own. Despite their hostility towards all natural life, it is commonly theorized that it is possible to exorcize a Mumbler by leading it to the location of its past life’s death, and calling out the name of the child to them. This effectively immobilizes the creature, while immobilized the creature must be tied to place in the area of the death, and the remains of their corpse must be placed upon the body of the Mumbler. Upon making full contact, it is said that the Mumbler will fade away, finding peace. Rarity: Rare Location: Mumblers can be found anywhere, due to the unnatural force which brings them to exist. They are not of this world, and have no natural habitat. Properties:
